The Rotary District 7170 Environmental Sustainability committee is sponsoring river paddles on the Susquehanna River to increase awareness of the ecological and economic importance of our natural assets and the need to address climate change overall. There will be two short paddles and two longer paddles:

May 16: Cooperstown to Milford -14 miles
May 17: Milford to Portlandville - 8.5 miles
May 21: Apalachin to Owego - 9 miles, Hickories Park
May 22: Owego to Sayre - 20 miles, Riverside Park

In addition to these events some members and friends are interested in a trip down the length of the river (444 miles). DG Evan is trying to get other Districts along the Susquehanna interested. These river events are open to the public and other organizations. We are now addressing all the details required to develop this event: safety and communications protocols, permitting, logistics, and marketing. We want this to be a fun and informative event. Some will participate in more than one event.

We hope to have 4 clubs sponsor a reception at each of the 4 landings. The receptions can include food and information. More details will be available in the February newsletter. This event has been reported at the international Rotary Action Group, ESRAG.
