Owego Rotarian since 1965
G. Fred Beaudry III
May 10, 1930 – January 3, 2017

Fred was born in Cortland and grew up in Homer. After some college, he was drafted into the Army. Following that, he married his sweetheart, Yvonne, and became a marketing representative for a Syracuse insurance company. Fred began coming to Owego to call on a local insurance business. The Beaudry family, by then with three children, moved to Owego in 1963. Fred became a partner in that local insurance company. Now called The Partners Insurance Company, it is a large and active business today.
Fred was invited to join Owego Rotary in 1965. He had always wanted to be a Rotarian. His grandfather was a charter member of Cortland Rotary. And his father, uncle and brother also were Cortland Rotarians. In addition, wife Yvonne’s father was a Rotary District Governor. Fred served Owego Rotary Club loyally and actively over the more than 52 years of his affiliation. He became secretary of the club and later served as club president. He was the longtime chair and member of the information committee for prospective and new members, and Fred also was an ace poinsettia salesman for the club’s annual fundraiser. He was a three-time Paul Harris Fellow and also named Yvonne a Paul Harris Fellow.
An enthusiastic golfer and gardener, and always active in his community, Fred’s contributions beyond Rotary were many. He held active leadership positions in Tioga County Boys & Girls Club, Tioga United Way, Boy Scouts of America Troop 37 and the Tioga County Historical Society. However, he was proudest to be part of Rotary. He believed in community service and promoting peace and fellowship. Fred was a gentleman and a wonderful example to club members over his 52 years as an Owego Rotarian and he will be missed.
